Nearly 300 people, including priests, educators, and communication leaders in the Diocese of Orlando, gathered May 5 at Holy Family Parish for the 2015 Diocese of Orlando Stewardship and Communications Day. The day-long event, sponsored by the Catholic Foundation of Central Florida, Inc. and the Diocese of Orlando Office of Communications, featured keynote talks and a myriad of Spanish and English breakout sessions centered on stewardship and communications within a parish. The event culminated with the celebration of Mass with Bishop John Noonan.

Gentile, pastor of Mary Queen of Peace Parish in the Archdiocese of Louisville, who spoke about “The Spirituality of Stewardship.” He said that stewardship is based on discipleship, and discipleship is based on people truly believing in God’s ownership in the gifts and blessings of their lives.

Communicating Catholic Culture
Every group has their culture. It’s not just for ethnic groups or corporations. Catholic culture can be understood in the context of the theme chosen by Pope Francis for the World Day of Communications:  “Family: A Privileged Place of Encounter with the Gift of Love.”  How can parishes and schools create a culture that communicates the behaviors and beliefs consistent with a family and a privileged place of encounter with the gift of God’s love?

From Maintenance to Mission:  The Role of Evangelization & Stewardship
Our mandate as Catholics is to “Go and make Disciples.” In the parish, this role is often delegated to Faith Formation Programs and/or Evangelization Teams. Yet, we all share in this responsibility. Yet stewardship and evangelization are intrinsically linked. We can provide a supporting role for those ministries and be active players in promoting Evangelization. As the “New Evangelization” becomes a greater focus in the parish, this session will provide practical ideas to create systems of support for Evangelization and also suggest strategies and tools for those working in Stewardship to actively participate in the evangelization process. Many of the ideas we embrace within stewardship work seamlessly with the new evangelization.

Media & Evangelization
Pope Francis’ daily mantra can be summed up in one expression: “Go out to the peripheries.” He calls us out of our cocoons to go to "the existential peripheries." Posting videos on YouTube is one way to be present outside the walls of our churches. Sharing our message of hope via the news media and social media is another way of branching out to reach all of God’s children and invite them to the table of the Lord. This workshop will summarize the best way to tap the power of media for the purpose of evangelization by giving best practices and concrete examples of media and evangelization.

Stewardship and the Catholic Schools: Mission & Vision of Catholic Education
The US Bishops Pastoral (1972) “To teach as Jesus Did” states “Catholic schools afford the fullest and best opportunity to realize the three fold purpose (message, community & service) of Christian education among children and young people.” A 4th purpose “worship” was added later. Again in 1997, the US Bishops committed themselves “unequivocally” to see that “serious efforts will be made to ensure that Catholic schools are available for Catholic parents who wish to send their children to them.”

To fulfill this great desirable goal of the US Bishops many brave efforts have been made to raise sufficient money to carry it out. “Raising money” to fulfill this goal is not the answer and it never will be. You see it is a spiritual matter, not a financial matter. A full understanding of the spirituality of the Stewardship Way of Life and then the faith and courage to live by it is the only answer. It is a no brainer. It works all the time.

All Catholic parents at Blessed Trinity Ocala, regardless of their economic conditions (from 0 to millionaires) who are serious about living the Stewardship Way of Life, currently receive a full Catholic education from K to high school graduation.
