For the second consecutive year, the Orlando Business Journal (OBJ) has ranked The Catholic Foundation of Central Florida as one of the largest nonprofit organizations in Central Florida. The Catholic Foundation ranked 26th, capping a year when its board and staff adapted to meet the community’s unprecedented needs caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The Catholic Foundation is a philanthropic-and-investment organization that partners with generous donors to improve the quality of life for children, youth, adults and families throughout Central Florida, regardless of race or religion. It oversees more than $70 million in investments that are managed for growth and to respect Catholic social teaching.

As a result of these investments, The Catholic Foundation in fiscal 2020 distributed $2.2 million to support education, people with disabilities, parish and faith life, and charities that provide food, housing, utilities, medical and mental-health assistance throughout Central Florida. The Catholic Foundation’s investing tools include newly launched Donor Advised Funds, which are designed to support hundreds of Central Florida and national nonprofits. In the initial launch, 21 organizations including Hope CommUnity Center of Apopka, Family Promise of Greater Orlando, Providence College, and others received support.

“We are honored to partner with regional donors and nonprofits to improve the quality of life and create positive change in Central Florida,” said Kimberlee Riley, The Foundation’s President & CEO. “The Catholic Foundation of Central Florida serves as a connector, collaborator and resource to inspire giving for the greater good of our community.”

The Catholic Foundation has adapted to serve the community’s changing needs. In response to the pandemic this year, The Catholic Foundation’s board approved an initial investment of $10,000 to seed the Mercy Fund and an additional $15,000 to match donations to this fund. Generous donors helped raise more than $60,000 for The Mercy Fund, which supports vulnerable populations in Central Florida with food, housing, utilities, and behavioral health assistance.

The Orlando Business Journal published the ranking on December 4th.
